Picante Sauce

This is my Mothers recipe for Picante Sauce.  Mom passed it on to me and my kids love it.  When I lived in Decatur and had a huge garden I decided that I would make enough to get through the next season…. I didn’t make it til fall.  I made several batches so hot I was determined the boys wouldn’t be able to eat a quart a night.  That only resulted in milk consumption going up.

When I worked for TYC we had a garden and raised everything it took for the sauce.  When the garden came off we had a production line and made gallons of the stuff.  The boys called it ‘Momma Lee’s Picante Sauce:

Chop the following ingredients:

5 cups tomatoes

one cup onion

3 large bell peppers

3 cloves garlic

1/4 cup fresh cilantro

10 jalapeno peppers

1 tsp. salt

1/4 cup lime or lemon juice

In large heavy pan, cook until onions are transparent.

(adjust peppers for desired heat)  ENJOY
