The Perfect Margarita

Believe it or not, this recipe comes from the back of the Jose Cuervo margarita mix bottle.  When Mark and I make Mexican food we each have two margaritas. The recipe on the bottle makes about a swallow of good margarita.  So I did some calculations and came up with the perfect measurements to make four 8 ounce glasses of margaritas.

Ingredients:

2.5 cups of Jose Cuervo Margarita Mix (I do not deviate from the brand at all)
1.5 cups of Jose Cuervo Silver Tequila (Again, I do not deviate, unless it’s Cabo Wabo)
Juice from 1/2 of a lime
Pinch of kosher salt
Margarita Salt
About 2 cups of crushed ice, maybe a little more depending on how slushy you like your drink

Directions:

Take the other half of the lime and slice it into quarters and rub it around the rim of the glass.  Then take your glass and dip it in the margarita salt then drop the lime into the glass. Pour all ingredients in your blender and mix at high-speed until the ice is completely crushed.  Pour into your glass and enjoy!

Sparkling Bourbon Lemonade

This recipe is courtesy of Bobby Flay from The Food Network. I get their recipes e-mailed to me. It’s a very light and refreshing drink. It will be great for a summer time BBQ. Bad thing about it is, you can’t really taste the bourbon which could really be a problem the next morning.

Note:
I put this note at the top so you will read it before you make up a big pitcher. It doesn’t do too well left over the next day, so if you are going to make it for just one or two people, you might want to cut the recipe in half.

 Ingredients
1 cup sugar
1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4 large lemons)
1/2 cup fresh orange juice (1 large orange)
4 cups club soda, chilled
Lemon slices (about 4 large lemons)
Orange slices (1 large orange)
1 bunch fresh mint sprigs, plus more for garnish
Crushed ice
6 shots bourbon (I used Jim Beam)

Directions
Combine 1 1/2 cups water and sugar in a small saucepan over high heat. Cook until the sugar is dissolved, about 2 minutes. Cool the simply syrup completely. This simple syrup can be made 1 week in advance and stored, covered, in the refrigerator.

Combine the simple syrup, lemon juice and orange juice in a pitcher. Mix in the club soda. Add the lemon slices, orange slices and mint.

Fill glasses with crushed ice. Add 1 shot bourbon to each glass and fill to the top with the sparkling lemonade. Garnish each glass with mint.

Redneck Margarita

This little concoction is my own creation, YUMMY!  Anyone that knows me knows that I am a huge Tequila fan, especially Cabo Wabo. Thanks to Sammy Hagar, and of course my father-in-law, Hippy Joe, who keeps me in good supply. Love ya Dad.

All you do is take a Mike’s Classic Margarita drink, about 1 oz of Cabo Wabo (blanco is what I use) and Kosher salt to taste.  Open your Mike’s and take a drink, leaving room for the tequila. Pour the tequila in the bottle, put your thumb over the top and gently stir.  Take whatever amount of salt that you prefer with your margarita and pour it in the bottle, thumb over the top and gently stir, carefully, it will foam on you and you don’t want to waste it.  BAM!!!!  Instant margarita without the hassle.  Make sure you have a 6-pack, because they go fast 🙂

And if you will notice, the recipe is in every category except breakfast, I don’t drink before 5:00

Long Island Iced Tea – 8 different recipes

Long Island Iced Tea #1

Collins glass
1 part vodka
1 part 1800® Tequila
1 part rum
1 part gin
1 part triple sec
1 1/2 parts sweet and sour mix
1 splash Coca-Cola®

Mix ingredients together over ice in a glass. Pour into a shaker and give one brisk shake. Pour back into the glass and make sure there is a touch of fizz at the top. Garnish with lemon.
